Alloy Wire feeding machine
This machine is designed for secondary metallurgy to dose and feed aluminum powder wire to a ladle containing molten metal for steel deoxidation. It is used as a member in the production flow with steel melting furnaces (ladle furnace, vacuum degassing chamber) to enhance steel quality.
Two-path wire feeding system where every path is controlled by a separate drive system developed by LLC 'Yurginsky machine engineering plant' is used for ladle treatment of steel in the technological process.
The machine provides programmes to feed the required quantity of aluminum wire rods and powder wire into heel of metal for any types of treatment such as inoculation, deoxidation, alloying, desulphurisation and others. This control system can operate the wire feeding machine in either semiautomatic (control cabinet, control panel), or automatic working modes (if the technological process of a ladle furnace or vacuum degassing unit is operated by the automatic control system).
This alloy wire feeding machine features operational stability at low feeding speeds. This feature is quite necessary when metal is treated in small volume ladles which are frequently used in machine engineering plants. .
At present such wire feeding systems are successfully used in steel making at LLC 'Yurginsky machine engineering plant'.
This wire feeding system comprises a wire feeding machine with a preset panel, guiding tubes to a swing roof of the ladle, vertical feed of aluminum wire rods and powder wire..

Design and operation of the feeding machine
The feeding machine is a split frame structure with vertical two-path system.
Wire is injected via paths independently by means of the frictional force appeared between a pressure roller Pos.1 and a guide roller Pos.2 ( see Figure 1). The pressure roller is actuated by an air cylinder Pos.3. The guide roller Pos.1 is driven by a feed drive system Pos.4.
A process procedure to feed the powder wire is briefly as follows:
- wire is prepared for feeding into the machine;
- the required quantity of wire in meters is specified on the panel;
- guiding tubes ( if there are) are set and wire is fed to the ladle;
- when necessary, after the end of this process the wire can be reversed (when the guiding tube is of a swing or tilt type).
